Poem: Today’s A-Lesson (And How to Get There)

Youth is infinite,
if the mountains are endless,
just a wide-open field.
I might as well be
a stranger in a strange land,
knowing not who I am.

I am more than a statistic,
I am more than a chance encounter.
More than any number.
I am more than any eternality
that is only talked about.

I am more than any government bailout,
I am more than any dog whistle.
I am more than any election.

I am greater than good deeds,
I am greater than bad ones.
I am greater than any loss,
I am more than any gain.

I’m still alive,
I’m still here.
I still get up in the morning,
I’m still alive,
I’m still here.
I’m still waiting.

All I need to do
is show up.
And that’s what I’m about.
